Covers the book and integrates reading skills with writing. A range of activities with challenge and extension tasks. Powerpoint lesson 7/8 also contains photos from inside Auschwitz from a visit I took to the camp which can bring the story to life for the students. Mine were really interested to see what it actually looked like.

Descriptive Writing - using Power & Conflict poetry as stimulus

(0)
A series of 17 lessons to develop students' descriptive writing skills in preparation for the new GCSE English Language descriptive writing task (targeted specifically at the new AQA GCSE - 8700 - Paper 1, Section B). It uses some of the poems from the Power and Conflict section of the AQA anthology as a stimulus, along with a little analytical exploration of them. This is the first unit we teach our Y10s but could be easily adapted to simply focus on descriptive writing, add to the poetry, etc. If you do cover this section of the anthology, it is ready to teach 'straight out the box', with all relevant resources. Plenty of examples of published writers to use as models.

'A Christmas Carol' exam tasks (AQA GCSE English Literature 8702, Paper 1, Section B)

A comprehensive collection of 23 sample exam tasks on 'A Christmas Carol' by Dickens, in the style of the new specification (8702) AQA English Lit Paper 1 GCSE exam. As with the official sample materials, each task includes brief details about where the extract is from, the extract itself with line numbers, and a question, followed by prompts to refer to the presentation of character/theme/idea/setting in the extract and the novel as a whole. The tasks are ordered in the same sequence as the extracts appear in the novel, so this would also be useful for recapping the story through key extracts.

Would probably last longer if required. This focuses on the first 'Alice in Wonderland' book by Lewis Carroll. Mainly focused on writing skills. Covers all of the book apart from Chapter 9 and 10. Activities include challenge tasks to extend students' thinking skills. All resources needed are included and all powerpoint slides come decorated and ready to use. All include learning objective and success criteria. No paper SoW as tasks are self-explanatory. Thank you for looking!

Poetry Anthology Revision - AQA

A template to test the students’ knowledge of each of the poems from the ‘Power and Conflict’ poems in AQA. Meant as a revision resource so both the student and teacher can see what they remember and need to revise. Also included are answers to the poems in the powerpoint.

This lesson can be used at any time of year but has Christmas based activities such as making a paper chain. It is designed to be a creative lesson whilst focusing on analytical skills and the writer’s intentions. Two PowerPoint slides (one for Paper 1, one for Paper 2) which we printed as revision ‘mats’ in A3 and placed around rooms where students congregated before the exams. It gives them final reminders on how to approach each question, and can be easily tailored to suit your own teaching - e.g. changing timings or including your own approaches to certain questions. These could also be used as revision sheets, posters or reminders to be used with mock exams.
